Welcome to Through the Thorns.

2

:

Today's rosary meditation is the sorrowful

mystery of the crucifixion of Jesus.

3

:

In the name of the Father and of the

Son and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

4

:

Take a deep breath and

center yourself in prayer.

5

:

Close your eyes and begin

to picture yourself standing

6

:

on a hill outside Jerusalem.

7

:

The sky is darkening and the

air feels heavy with sorrow.

8

:

You see Jesus nailed to the cross, his

body hanging between two criminals.

9

:

The soldiers are gathered at

the foot of the cross, their

10

:

voices cold and indifferent.

11

:

Step closer to the scene.

12

:

Hear the dull thud of the hammer

striking the nails, the groans

13

:

of pain, and the mocking laughter

of the crowd that still stands.

14

:

The blood from Jesus hands and feet.

15

:

Drips slowly to the ground and his

body trembles under the strain yet His

16

:

eyes are filled with strength and love

17

:

as you stand there you hear one of the

criminals on his side Taunting him.

18

:

Are you not the Christ?

19

:

Save yourself and us the words are

harsh full of scorn But then the

20

:

other criminal speaks his voice is

weaker, but sincere Do you not fear God

21

:

we are punished justly for we are

receiving what we deserve from our deeds.

22

:

But this man has done nothing wrong.

23

:

The man turns his head towards

Jesus struggling to speak and

24

:

says, Jesus, remember me when

you come into your kingdom.

25

:

Jesus lifts his head and despite his

agony, His voice carries a profound peace.

26

:

Truly, I tell you, today you

will be with me in paradise.

27

:

Take a moment to reflect on

the conversion of this man.

28

:

Imagine his relief in this moment.

29

:

His hope amidst the

pain he's experiencing.

30

:

What does this moment teach you

about the infinite mercy of Jesus?

31

:

Time passes and Jesus cries out.

32

:

Father, forgive them, for

they know not what they do.

33

:

The sky grows darker, and the

earth trembles beneath your feet.

34

:

Jesus looks at his mother Mary, standing

near the cross, her face streaked with

35

:

tears, her heart broken, and he says,

Woman, behold your son, nodding towards

36

:

John, the beloved disciple next to her.

37

:

Then to John, behold your mother,

feel the weight of this moment.

38

:

Jesus, in his deepest suffering, still

cares for those he loves, and with

39

:

great effort, he raises his voice one

last time, crying out, It is finished.

40

:

His head falls forward, and the

world seems to hold its breath.

41

:

The earth shakes violently.

42

:

And the veil of the temple is torn in two.

43

:

A soldier approaches the cross

with a spear, and you watch as

44

:

he pierces Jesus side, and from

the wound, blood and water flow.

45

:

The sight startles and stirs something

within the soldier, and he steps

46

:

back, his face filled with awe.

47

:

Truly, this was the

Son of God, he murmurs,

48

:

kneel in the shadow of the cross.

49

:

Look at Jesus, lifeless, yet radiant

with a love that knows no bounds.

50

:

The blood and water flowing from his

side remind you of the sacraments,

51

:

the cleansing waters of baptism,

body and blood of the Eucharist.

52

:

This sacrifice is for you, out

of Jesus deep love for you.

53

:

What do you feel as you stand in

the presence of this sacrifice?

54

:

What do you want to say

to Jesus in this moment?

55

:

Let yourself rest here at the foot of

the cross and allow his love to fill

56

:

your heart and listen for his voice.

57

:

What does he say to you as he

gives everything up for you?

58

:

Let us pray.

59

:

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,

creator of heaven and earth, and

60

:

in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our

Lord, who was conceived by the Holy

61

:

Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate, was

62

:

crucified, died, and was buried.

63

:

He descended into hell, and on the

third day, he rose again from the dead.

64

:

He ascended into heaven and

is seated at the right hand

65

:

of God, the Father Almighty.

66

:

From there he will come to

judge the living and the dead.

67

:

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy

Catholic Church, the communion of saints,

68

:

the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection

of the body, and life everlasting.

69

:

Amen.

70

:

For the intentions of our Holy Father,

Pope Francis, and all the priests.

71

:

Our Father, who art in

heaven, hallowed be thy name.

72

:

Thy kingdom come, thy will be

done, on earth as it is in heaven.

73

:

Give us this day our daily bread,

and forgive us our trespasses, as we

74

:

forgive those who trespass against us.

75

:

And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

76

:

Amen.

77

:

For an increase in faith, hope, and love.

78

:

Hail Mary, full of grace,

the Lord is with thee.

79

:

Blessed art thou among women, and

blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

sinners now and at the hour of our death.

sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

89

:

90

:

Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it

91

:

was in the beginning, is now, and

ever shall be, world without end.

92

:

Amen.

The first sorrowful mystery.

94

heaven, hallowed be thy name.

:

done, on earth as it is in heaven.
