Welcome to Through the Thorns.

2

:

Today's rosary meditation will

be the Sorrowful Mystery of

3

:

Jesus Scourging at the Pillar.

4

:

In the name of the Father, and of the

Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

5

:

Take a moment to center

yourself in prayer.

6

:

Close your eyes and take a deep

breath, inhaling, exhaling.

7

:

Now close your eyes and

imagine being present in the

8

:

courtyard of Pilate's palace.

9

:

The cold cobblestone rocks underneath

you and the air is heavy with tension.

10

:

There's a crowd and you hear the

jeers of the crowd echo around you.

11

:

You see Roman guards enter the scene

and they're leading Jesus to a pillar

12

:

in the center of the courtyard.

13

:

His hands are bound and his

shoulders slump under the weight

14

:

of what is about to happen.

15

:

You hear the crowd jeer louder.

16

:

His back is bare and the soldiers

begin to prepare their whips.

17

:

You take a step closer, watching as

his first lash strikes his flesh.

18

:

The sound is sharp, cutting through the

air, and you see him flinch in pain.

19

:

Blood begins to drip down his

back, and each strike seems

20

:

more brutal than the last.

21

:

The sound of the whip

echoes in your heart.

22

:

And you want to look away, but

something keeps your gaze fixed on

23

:

him, and he meets your eyes for a

moment before another lash strikes.

24

:

Why is he enduring this?

25

:

What does his gaze say to you?

26

:

You hear the soldiers mocking him,

laughing as they inflict pain.

27

:

Insulting him, but Jesus remains silent.

28

:

There's no anger in his eyes,

just deep humility and love.

29

:

Love for you.

30

:

Kneel beside him and place your hand

on the ground near where he stands.

31

:

What do you feel in this moment?

32

:

What does Jesus suffering

stir in your heart?

33

:

Let us pray.

34

:

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,

creator of heaven and earth, and

35

:

in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our

Lord, who was conceived by the Holy

36

:

Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate, was

37

:

crucified, died, and was buried.

38

:

He descended into hell, and on the

third day, he rose again from the dead.

39

:

He ascended into heaven and

is seated at the right hand

40

:

of God, the Father Almighty.

41

:

From there he will come to

judge the living and the dead.

42

:

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy

Catholic Church, the communion of saints,

43

:

the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection

of the body, and life everlasting.

44

:

Amen.

45

:

For the intentions of our Holy Father,

Pope Francis, and all the priests.

46

:

Our Father, who art in

heaven, hallowed be thy name.

47

:

Thy kingdom come, thy will be

done, on earth as it is in heaven.

48

:

Give us this day our daily bread,

and forgive us our trespasses, as we

49

:

forgive those who trespass against us.

50

:

And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

51

:

Amen.

52

:

For an increase in faith, hope, and love.

53

:

Hail Mary, full of grace,

the Lord is with thee.

blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
